This is from a graphic novel Persepolis by Marjane Satrape I just finished. This is the first frame in the first chapter called ‘The Veil”.
I have just started Essex Serpent by Sarah Perry. This is the first line. Although it’s not very impressive, this book has great reviews.
A young man walks down by the banks of the Blackwater under the full cold moon.
Book Beginnings is hosted by Gilion at Rose City Reader, who invites anyone to join in, saying: ‘Please join me every Friday to share the first sentence (or so) of the book you are reading, along with your initial thoughts about the sentence, impressions of the book, or anything else the opener inspires. Please remember to include the title of the book and the author. Leave a link to your post. If you don’t have a blog, but want to participate, please leave a comment with your Book Beginning.’
I read Persepolis many years ago and found it to be illuminating but i wasn’t very inspired by it. My Friday quotes come from Life on Mars
I loved Persepolis and hope you did too. I haven’t yet read Perry’s book, but, like you, I have heard such great things about it. I hope you enjoy that one! I do want to read it one of these days. Have a great week!
Oh I liked Persepolis a lot
