For someone like me, reading and trying to remember these kind of words is a nightmare. Sometimes I can’t even spell the main characters name properly without checking. There were too many new things, too many people and too much information overload within the first 50 pages that I almost wanted to quit.But I’m a sucker for mermaids and oceans and myths and legends, so I persevered. I’m so glad I did because this is going to be one of my favorite series ever.
Serafina is a mermaid Princess and it’s the day of the crowning ceremony and her betrothal to the prince of Matali. She is to take over from her mother who is a kind, just and smart ruler. But something or someone attacks the village during the ceremony and everything falls apart. Serafina has to run for her life from people who attacked her village and also people who want to kidnap her for things unknown to her. There is a myth involved and of course there is ‘saving the sea world‘ from an unknown enemy.
But Serafina is not alone, she is to be joined by 5 other girls. This is the story of their adventure. Will these six teenage girls rise above their insecurities and fear to face what could be the destruction of the sea and in turn their lives as well? Only the sequels will tell 🙂
Deep Blue is a beautifully imagined world. It’s as expansive as the ocean and as complex as the human world. There are mermaids, hippocamps, people stuck in mirrors and all sorts of wonderful things. The author tries to set base for this world in the first book, hence I believe all the confusion. I guess the next books should be relatively confusion free. Sometimes the puns and the metaphors are a little lame but I can overlook that for my love of all things mermaid.
Deep Blue is unlike any YA fantasy I’ve read before and I hope you give it a chance. Waiting for the sequels. Write them fast please, Ms Donnelly.

I have yet to read a book featuring a mermaid. I take that back. I think there was one urban fantasy novel in which one of the minor side characters may have been a mermaid . . . I can’t remember for sure though.
This does sound really good. I will have to look for this series.
