I bought books !!!

I went to Landmark (bookstore) yesterday. This is one yearly sale I always look forward to. Usually they have 10-15% discount on all books and then they lay out tables with bargain books which are awesome by the way. But this time there was no discount on normal books, only bargain books. But I’m not disappointed. I bought many books on bargain prices, some of which were on my wish list 🙂

books

From left to right.

Forest of the Pygmies by Esabel Allende
Kingdom of the golden dragon by Esabel Allende
My younger sis selected these but I had wanted to read something by Allende for some time now and what better than these?

Igraine the Brave by Cornelia Funke
Again, I’ve so much about the InkHeart series but they are chunksters so I would never get around to reading them. So, I picked this up. It’s a gorgeous book with beautiful cover and beautiful illustrations inside.

Transgressions: This is part of small novellas published with 2 novellas in each book. The one I got has John Farris and Stephen King. It looks really good.

Spouse by Shobha De (Non Fiction): I have read 2-3 books by her. I really like her writing style, what bothers me is the content. I’m hoping this one is better though.

The Catastrophist by Ronan Bennett: This one is a mystery set in Belgiun Congo during the decolonization struggles of 1959 to 1960. This book was shortlisted for the 1998 Whitbread Novel Award.

Goodbye Tsugumi by Banana yoshimoto
np by Banana yoshimoto

I had read reviews on Kitchen by the same author. I didn’t find that book but I found 2 others.

Toast by Nigel Slater (Non-Fiction): It’s a food memoir and it looks really good.

Matilda by Roald Dahl: Loved the movie, I think the book is good too.

The Ash Garden: It’s by a Canadian author Dennis Block and follows the story’s of two main characters affected by the bombing of Hiroshima; Anton Böll, a German physicist and Emiko, a victim of the bombing.  Sounds good, no?

The next 3 books I got from a second hand section of a bookstore last week. There was actually no reason for me to buy them other than the fact that they were super cheap. So I’m not listing them here.

Phantoms in the Brain (Non-Fiction): I read a review of this on Eva’s blog and when I saw it in the bookstore I couldn’t resist although there wasn’t too much discount on it.

On the Road to Kandahar by Jason Burker (Non-Fiction): Just the kind of book I love. It’s a travelogue.

Tales from the Torrid Zone by Alexander Frater (Non-Fiction): Again a travelogue. I had loved his book ‘Chasing the Monsoon’ and had wanted to read this one for quite some time.

That’s about it I guess. I found a lot of non-fiction, so that makes me happy.

I also bought these small cooking books which look absolutely delish. Sanjeev Kapoor is a very famous chef in India. These might be the first cooking books I have bought, I think.

Have you read any of these?

  1. Wow, you had bought a lot of books! I’m not familiar with most titles except books by Cornelia Funke, Roald Dahl and Banana Yoshimoto. I really enjoyed Kitchen by Banana Yoshimoto and I hope you’ll be able to find a copy of it soon!

    Happy reading! 🙂

  2. You sure did buy books!! Wow–and they’re all so colorful. I haven’t read any of them, but I recently added Goodbye, Tsugumi to my shelf as well. Enjoy, Violet.
